Expansion of Religious Freedom
It was announced on Thursday 01/18 the current Federal administration will be announcing at the Friday March for Life rally the expansion of the Religious Freedom executive order to include healthcare.
This will effectively give healthcare institutions, inclusive of emergency services, the right to refuse treatment based on the religious and moral beliefs of the providers. This is specifically drafted to include the right to refuse abortion and birth control related services.
Attorney General Sessions has announced he will be completing guidelines on how the DOJ will provide protections for providers who refuse services under the Religious Freedom provision.
A new division within HHS will be created, termed the Conscience and Religious Freedom division, will also provide oversight.
This move also specifically targets the LGBT communities.
